What Is Tenax Solido?

A polyester mastic for bonding, filling and repairing stone.

Tenax Solido is a polyester-based stone adhesive, made by Tenax in Italy. It is the mastic fabricators use to bond stone to stone, close seams, fill chips and pack the natural voids that some slabs arrive with.

It is a two-part product. The mastic is mixed with a hardener immediately before use and cures chemically rather than drying, which is why it sets hard enough to be sanded and polished level with the stone around it.

Customers often call it Tenax Mastic, or simply Tenax followed by a color. It is stocked in black, white and transparent, and the color matters more than people expect.

This is the only product in our care range that is a material rather than a treatment. The sealers and cleaners maintain a finished surface; Solido puts it together.

What Is Tenax Solido Used For?

Four jobs, and most of them happen during fabrication.

Bonding stone to stone

Laminated edges are the common case. Two layers of 18 mm slab bonded together read as a 36 mm profile, and Solido is the adhesive holding them. The same goes for mitred corners.

Closing seams

An L-shaped or U-shaped kitchen needs a seam somewhere, and the mastic fills and color-matches the join. This is why seams on a well-fabricated counter are visible up close but not obvious across a room.

Filling chips

A chip at an edge or a cutout fills, cures and sands back level. On natural stone the color runs through the full depth, so a filled chip disappears far better than on a surface-printed material.

Filling natural voids

Some slabs arrive with small natural pits or fissures, which is normal rather than a fault. Those are packed and polished during fabrication, which is why a finished counter looks more even than the raw slab.

How Do You Apply Tenax Solido?

Mix small, because the clock starts immediately.

Clean and Dry the Surfaces

Dust, sealer and grease all stop the mastic bonding. Clean the joining faces, let them dry completely, and do not seal a repair area until the fill has cured.

Mix Only What You Will Use

Add hardener to a small quantity and mix thoroughly. Once catalysed it begins curing, so mix in batches you can place within the working time rather than preparing the whole job at once.

Overfill, Then Sand Back

Pack the repair slightly proud of the surface, let it cure fully, then sand and polish level. Filling flush leaves a dip once it shrinks, and a dip is more visible than a color mismatch.

Can You Repair a Chip Yourself?

Yes. Small ones, with patience.

Yes. A small chip at an edge or beside a sink is a realistic job for a careful homeowner. Clean it, mix a little mastic in the closest color, overfill, let it cure, then sand and polish back.

Keep the fragment if you still have it. A chip that has broken away cleanly can sometimes be bonded back rather than filled, and a rebonded fragment matches perfectly because it is the same stone.

The honest limit is scale. A chip the size of a fingernail is a home repair. A broken corner, a cracked slab or damage around a cutout is fabricator work, and attempting it yourself usually makes the professional repair harder.

Will the Repair Be Invisible?

No. Close, on the right stone, at the right distance.

No. A filled repair is a color-matched patch of resin sitting in a piece of natural stone. From standing height on a busy granite it disappears. Under a downlight at close range, on a plain surface, you will find it.

Busy stone hides repairs best. A coarse mottle like Salt and Pepper or Tiger Orange breaks up a fill completely. A near-plain surface gives it nowhere to hide.

Veined stone is the hard case. Filling a chip that crosses a vein means matching both the ground color and the vein, and mastic comes in three colors rather than infinite ones. Expect a compromise.

Set the expectation before you start. A repair that is 90 percent invisible is a good outcome on natural stone, and far better than living with a chip.

Tenax Cera Fluida at ₱3,500 deepens color and adds sheen. Worth knowing after a repair, since a wax can help a filled area blend with the stone around it.

Which Color Should You Choose?

Match the ground, not the pattern.

Choose against the dominant background color of the slab rather than against a vein or a fleck. On a grained stone the ground is what the eye reads, and matching a black fleck on a white granite leaves a dark dot.

Black suits the dark granites, so Absolute Black, Black Galaxy, Tan Brown and the darker Sapphire quartz. White suits the pale whites and grays, including Caesar White, Moonstone and the Calacatta quartz range.

For the warm neutrals — Marigold, Beige Porrino, Crema Marfil and both travertines — ask the branch which of the three works best against your slab.

Transparent is for seams on veined or translucent stone where any solid color would show as a line. It is the hardest to use well, because it takes on the color of whatever is behind it, so test on an offcut first.

Do I seal before or after a repair?

After. Sealer on the repair area stops the mastic bonding properly. Fill first, let it cure fully, sand and polish, then seal the whole surface.

How long does it take to cure?

It cures chemically once the hardener is mixed in, so working time is short and full cure follows within hours. Mix small batches you can place before it sets, and check the tin for current times.
