For kitchen countertops, the stone sealer to use is Tenax Proseal. It protects against both oil and water, and oil is what actually stains a working counter.

For floors, wall cladding, and outdoor surfaces, use Tenax Hydrex. It is a water-protection sealer, which is what those surfaces need.

Seal when the water test fails, not on a date. Marble, travertine and onyx can want it as often as every six months. The granites that need sealing usually go once or twice a year.

Granite depends on the individual stone rather than its color: Absolute Black, Black Galaxy, Tan Brown and Marigold need none, while Black Impala, Paradiso Dark and Gray Honda do. Engineered quartz never needs sealing at all.

To check whether a surface is due, use the water blot test on an inconspicuous area: leave a few drops of water for 15 minutes, and if the stone darkens, then it’s time to reseal.

Because the residue builds up. Each wipe leaves a thin film that is invisible on day one and visibly dull a year later, and no amount of extra scrubbing removes it.

This is the most common reason a countertop looks tired long before it has actually worn. A stone-specific cleaner avoids the problem entirely.

It is a polyester-based stone adhesive for bonding, filling, and repairing natural stone. Fabricators use it for laminated edges, seam joins, and chip repairs.

It comes in black, white, and transparent. The white variant is the usual choice for light-colored stones, since it disappears into the fill.
