What Is Nimbus Quartz?

Fine flecking on a deep charcoal ground.

Nimbus is an engineered quartz in a deep charcoal gray, finely and evenly grained with lighter gray and translucent flecks. There is no veining and no pattern that has to be placed, because the texture repeats uniformly across the whole slab.

It is the same construction as Moonstone at the opposite end of the tonal range. Where Moonstone is a flecked white, Nimbus is a flecked dark, and the two are often specified together for an island and a perimeter run.

At ₱6,000 per square meter it sits near the bottom of our quartz range, just above the Sapphire colorways at ₱5,700. The saving over the veined designs at ₱8,500 is pattern complexity rather than any difference in the material itself.

Being engineered rather than quarried, it is roughly 93% crushed natural stone bound with about 7% resin. That construction makes it stain-resistant, so it never etches and never needs sealing.

How Do You Clean Nimbus Quartz?

Three habits, and a dark surface keeps its depth.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

A dark polished surface shows dried water marks and limescale far more than a pale one. Wipe with a damp cloth, then a dry one, and it looks clean rather than streaked.

Use Only Quartz Cleaner

Dish soap leaves a film, and on charcoal that film reads as a dull gray haze within weeks. A pH-balanced quartz cleaner lifts residue without attacking the resin holding the slab together.

Never Scour It

Steel wool, scouring pads and abrasive powders scuff the polish permanently. A plastic scraper lifts anything dried on without leaving a mark.

How Do You Care for Nimbus Quartz?

No sealing required, which leaves three rules.

Always Use Trivets

The resin binding the slab is heat-sensitive, so a pan straight off the burner can scorch or discolor it permanently. Heat is the most common way a quartz counter is ruined and no workmanship warranty covers it.

Keep It Out of Direct Sun

Quartz fades under prolonged UV and the change cannot be reversed. A dark slab loses depth as it goes, so fit blinds where a counter catches afternoon sun and keep quartz installations indoors.

Skip Harsh Chemicals

Bleach, oven cleaner and high-pH products break down the resin over time. Never apply wax either, because it builds up and leaves a cloudy bloom that is very visible on charcoal.

Is Nimbus Quartz Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Yes, with one trade every dark counter makes.

Yes. Engineered quartz resists both etching and staining, so lemon juice, vinegar, wine and red sauce wipe away rather than marking the surface. On a charcoal ground a spill is invisible long before you reach it anyway.

Hardness helps too. Quartz sits around 7 on the Mohs scale against marble at 3, so it resists the scratching that dulls a soft natural stone within a few years of ordinary cooking.

Here is the trade. Dark counters hide food and stains beautifully, but they show dust, fingerprints and dried water marks that a pale slab would swallow. The grain takes the edge off, which is why flecked charcoal is easier to live with than plain black. Expect to wipe it more often.

The genuine limit is heat. A pan lifted straight off a burner can scorch the resin, and that damage cannot be polished out. If you routinely put hot pans straight down, a dark granite is the more forgiving material.

Does Nimbus Quartz Need Sealing?

Nothing to seal — engineered quartz is manufactured rather than quarried.

No. Sealing works by filling the pore structure of a quarried stone so liquid cannot travel into it. A sealer does nothing for engineered quartz and, in some formulations, harms the resin.

Worth knowing if you are weighing this against natural stone: the dark granites we carry do not need sealing either. Absolute Black and Black Galaxy are both dense enough to skip it, so on maintenance alone the three are level.

Anyone selling you a sealer for a quartz counter is either mistaken or selling something you do not need. Cleaning is the whole maintenance routine.

Nimbus vs Our Other Dark Surfaces

Three ways to get a dark counter, and heat is what separates them.

Nimbus is the engineered one

Fine flecking on charcoal at ₱6,000 per sqm. Choose it for a consistent dark surface with a finer grain than the Sapphire aggregate designs.

Moonstone is the same texture in white

Moonstone is the identical flecking on bright white, at ₱6,200 per sqm. The two are designed to work together, so a charcoal perimeter with a white island is easy to specify.

Black Galaxy is the natural version

Black Galaxy gives you flecks on black as quarried stone rather than manufactured, with bronze glints instead of gray. It takes a hot pan without flinching, which Nimbus will not.

Absolute Black if you want no pattern at all

Absolute Black is a uniform black with no fleck and no veining. Same heat tolerance as Black Galaxy, and the most severe of the three to look at.

What Colors Go With Nimbus Quartz?

A dark counter sets the anchor and lets everything above it lift.

Charcoal is a grounding color, so the usual approach is to keep the cabinetry lighter and let the counter sit as the heavy band through the middle of the room.

White and off-white cabinetry give the cleanest contrast, and the gray flecks stop the join looking as stark as it would against a plain black. Pale gray works equally well and reads softer.

Timber is the warmer route. Oak and light walnut against charcoal is a reliable combination, and it stops a gray kitchen tipping into something cold.

The trap is going dark on both. Charcoal under navy or dark gray cabinetry closes a room down fast, especially in a small condo kitchen with one window. If the cabinetry is already dark, Moonstone does the same job in reverse and keeps the room open.

Can you put a hot pan on Nimbus quartz?

Why is Nimbus cheaper than your veined quartz?

Pattern complexity drives the price in engineered quartz. An even grain is simpler to manufacture than veining, so Nimbus is ₱6,000 per sqm against ₱8,500 for the veined designs. Thickness, hardness and durability are identical.

Does Nimbus quartz stain?

Stain-resistant, not stainproof. Spills sit on the surface rather than soaking in. Turmeric, red wine and coffee all sit on top and wipe away, and on a charcoal ground they are barely visible while they are there.

Does the pattern need aligning across a seam?

No. The flecking is uniform and has no direction, so slabs can be laid whichever way suits the room and a seam does not have to be matched. That makes it a straightforward choice for L-shaped kitchens and long runs.

Can Nimbus quartz be used outdoors?

No. Prolonged UV fades engineered quartz permanently, and a dark slab visibly loses depth as it goes. For an outdoor counter or a lanai, granite is the material that holds its color in Philippine sun.
