What Is Marigold Granite?

A coarse light brown, shot through with olive and black.

Marigold is an Indian granite in a coarse, busy light brown grain, broken up by olive-brown and black crystals. The grain is large enough to read individually across the whole slab.

The name sets the wrong expectation. There is no marigold yellow in this stone. It is a warm light brown, closer to a dense mottled earth tone than to anything golden, so judge it on the slab rather than the name.

There is no direction to the grain, which makes it straightforward to fabricate. Slabs can be laid whichever way suits the room, which gives us more freedom when we match the seam.

At ₱3,400 per square meter it sits at the affordable end of our granite range, and it is one of the few granites we carry that needs no sealing at all.

How Do You Clean Marigold Granite?

Three habits, and there is no sealer to work around.

Clean as You Go

Marigold is dense enough that spills sit on the surface rather than traveling into it. A soft cloth clears nearly everything, and the busy grain disguises whatever you miss between wipes.

Use Only Granite Cleaner

Bleach and acidic bathroom sprays dull a polished granite over time even where there is no sealer to strip. A pH-neutral stone cleaner lifts grease without touching the polish.

Never Scour It

Steel wool, scouring pads and abrasive powders scuff the polish permanently. A plastic scraper lifts anything dried on without leaving a mark.

How Do You Care for Marigold Granite?

Three rules, and none of them is sealing.

Use a Board for Cutting

Granite will blunt a knife long before the knife marks the stone, so a board protects your blades rather than the counter. It also keeps food debris out of the coarse grain.

Support Overhangs Properly

Stone is strong in compression and weaker in tension, so a breakfast bar overhang beyond about 30 cm requires a bracket underneath. This is a fabrication decision, not something to fix later.

Never Sit or Stand on It

Granite is hard but not flexible, and an unsupported overhang can crack under body weight. Pull up a step stool rather than climbing onto the counter.

Is Marigold Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

One of the most practical surfaces we sell.

Yes. Granite is a silicate stone, so acid does not etch it. Lemon juice, vinegar and wine leave the polish intact where they would dull a marble within seconds.

Heat is where it pulls clearly ahead of engineered quartz. A pan lifted straight off the burner will not scorch it, because there is no resin binder to burn. Trivets remain good practice against thermal shock, but a moment of carelessness will not ruin the counter.

The combination on offer here is unusually strong for the money. No sealing, a coarse busy grain that hides crumbs and water marks better than almost anything else we carry, and a price at the affordable end of the range. If you want a counter that asks nothing of you, this is the shortlist.

The trade-off is visual rather than practical. A busy mottle is not a quiet or contemporary look, and it will not suit a kitchen designed around clean lines. Look at a full slab before deciding.

Does Marigold Granite Need Sealing?

No. And the color of a slab will not tell you that.

No. Marigold is dense enough that liquids cannot travel into it, so a sealer has nothing to fill. Applying one anyway can leave a hazy film sitting on top of the polish.

This is worth stating clearly because sealing cannot be read off the color of a slab. Salt and Pepper, River White and Paradiso Light all need sealing whenever the water test says so. Marigold does not, and the only way to know that is to check the stone rather than the color.

Anyone selling you a sealer for this counter without asking which granite it is has not checked either. Cleaning is the whole maintenance routine.

Marigold vs Our Other Coarse-Grained Granites

Marigold is the warm one that needs no sealing

A coarse light brown with olive and black, at ₱3,400 per sqm. Choose it when you want warmth, low maintenance and a surface that hides everyday use.

Salt and Pepper looks similar and behaves differently

Salt and Pepper is the cooler gray and white version of this kind of grain, and it does need sealing. If you like the mottling but want it cool rather than warm, that is the trade you are making.

Tan Brown is the darker no-sealing option

Tan Brown also skips the sealer entirely, in a much darker brown with black and burgundy grain. The choice between them is tone rather than upkeep.

Baltic Brown is the boldest grain

Baltic Brown from Finland carries large rounded brown clusters rather than a fine grain. Much more visible pattern, and it does need sealing.

What Colors Go With Marigold Granite?

A warm neutral that gets on with almost anything.

Light brown with dark grain is about as accommodating as a counter gets. It carries no strong color of its own, so very little will actually clash with it.

Cream and warm white cabinetry give the calmest result, and the dark crystals stop the combination reading as bland. This is the safe route.

Timber is a natural fit. Oak, teak and narra all share the warm undertone, which is why this stone suits an older Filipino kitchen without looking out of place.

Darker cabinetry works too. Olive, forest green and dark brown all pick up colors already present in the grain. The one thing to avoid is cool gray, which tends to make the brown look muddy rather than warm. For hardware, brass and bronze suit it best.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Marigold granite yellow?
No. Despite the name there is no marigold yellow in it. The stone is a warm light brown, with olive-brown and black crystals through it. Judge it on the slab rather than the name.

Does Marigold granite need sealing?
No. It is dense enough that liquids cannot penetrate, so a sealer has nothing to fill and can leave a hazy film if applied. Color is no guide to which granites need sealing, and this is one that does not.

Can you tell from the color whether a granite needs sealing?
No. Porosity varies stone by stone and does not follow color. Salt and Pepper, River White and Paradiso Light are pale and all need sealing, while Absolute Black and Tan Brown are dark and need none. Marigold sits between them and needs none either. Always check the specific stone rather than assuming from the shade.

Can you put a hot pan on Marigold granite?
Yes. There is no resin binder to scorch, so a pan straight off the burner will not burn or discolor the surface. A trivet is still worth using, because any stone can crack if the temperature change is sudden and extreme. Trivets are still sensible to avoid thermal shock on a cold slab, but this is the material’s real advantage over engineered quartz.

Does Marigold granite stain?
Not in normal use. Sealed and wiped promptly, oil, wine and turmeric sit on top and wipe away. The coarse grain also disguises anything left behind between wipes.

Does it etch like marble?
No. Granite is silicate-based rather than calcium carbonate, so acid does not eat into the polish. Lemon juice, vinegar and wine leave the surface intact where they would dull a marble almost immediately.

Can Marigold granite be used outdoors?
Yes. Unlike engineered quartz, granite holds its color under Philippine sun, so it suits lanai counters, outdoor kitchens and pool-side surfaces. With no sealing schedule to keep up, it is a particularly easy choice outdoors.
