Hassan Green is a dark green granite scattered with dense white and pale green mineral grains. The ground is deep enough to read as near-black from a distance, with the green resolving as you approach and the flecking giving it constant fine texture.

It takes its name from the Hassan district of Karnataka in Southern India, where it has been quarried for decades. The stone is a genuine granite rather than a trade name applied to something else.

That matters practically. It is the only dark green surface in our range that takes a hot pan straight off the burner, never etches and carries granite hardness at 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale.

How Do You Clean Hassan Green Granite?

Three habits, and a dark polish keeps its depth.

Blot Spills and Drips Promptly

Oil is the one spill worth catching quickly, since it travels into the pale mineral grains faster than into the darker ground. Everything else sits on the surface and waits for you.

Use Only Granite Cleaner

Vinegar, bleach and general-purpose sprays strip the sealer and dull the polish over time. A cleaner made for natural stone lifts grease without attacking either.

Always Keep the Surface Dry

Hard water leaves mineral rings that show clearly against a dark polished ground. A dry cloth after wiping removes them before they build up into a haze.

How Do You Care for Hassan Green Granite?

Sealing aside, three rules and the counter looks after itself.

Always Use a Cutting Board

Granite is harder than a kitchen knife, so the counter wins and the blade loses. A board protects your knives rather than the stone, which is the opposite of the usual advice.

Mind the Edges

A polished edge is the most exposed part of any slab. Avoid knocking heavy pots against it, and keep any overhang properly supported where a counter extends past its cabinet.

Reseal as Needed

The water test tells you when. 15 minutes of work restores the protection across the whole counter.

Does Hassan Green Granite Need Sealing?

A flecked granite is more open than a plain one.

Yes. The dense feldspar and quartz grains that give this stone its texture also give it more pore structure than a uniform gabbro such as Absolute Black, which needs no sealer at all.

Test your own slab rather than following a rule. Put a few drops of water on an inconspicuous part of the counter, leave them 15 minutes, and wipe. If the stone beneath has darkened, it is absorbing and wants a sealer. If it has not, the existing seal is still doing its job.

Reseal when the test says so rather than on a schedule. Application takes about 15 minutes for a standard counter: clean, dry thoroughly, apply an impregnating sealer, let it dwell, then buff off the excess before it hazes.

Unlike marble, sealing here is genuinely protective. Granite does not etch, so a sealed granite counter is protected against the only thing that can mark it.

Is Hassan Green Granite Good for Kitchen Countertops?

Green, dark, and tough enough to be a working surface.

Yes. Granite sits at 6 to 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, so normal kitchen use will not scratch it, and it will not scorch the way engineered quartz does. A pan straight off the burner will not mark it.

The dark ground earns its keep daily. Coffee, soy sauce and red wine barely register against it, and the fine flecking breaks up water marks and crumbs that a plain surface would display.

Sealing is the one ongoing task, and it is a twenty-minute job rather than a chore.
